Southampton and South West Hampshire Health Authority aims to provide better health care for local people by planning and securing high quality health services.
We are responsible for making sure that you have access to a wide range of health care including family doctors, dentists, pharmacists, opticians, hospital and community health services.
The two vital jobs of the Health Authority are to:
• make sure that all parts of the local NHS work together to plan and deliver health service improvements for local people
• to provide strategic leadership for improving health and tackling health inequalities
In order to do this the Health Authority has to identify the health needs of local people and make sure there are services to meet those needs within the resources available to us.
This means the Health Authority has to draw up detailed plans for developing health services and these are published in the Health Improvement Programme for the area.
